40 Days Left: Giving up Coffee

A project by Brandi Lalanne, interactive media and web designer

No coffee for 40 days. Every saved dollar goes towards the effort to provide clean water for those in need.

DAY 40: WHOO-HOO!

March 17th, 2008 by Brandi

40 DAYS!

For the past 40 days I have gone with no coffee. My goal was to successfully fast from my heavy habit and raise money for charity. Score on both parts!

Not only am I excited about being able to soon drink coffee again, but also because I know that there will be children benefitting from this.

THANK YOU:
To my friends and families and coworkers–all of which encouraged me, though most of it was in a mocking sort of way. You guys kept me light hearted and from going on a rampage.

DONATION:
My final donation will be at $205.00! How awesome! Though incredibly sad to see that I spend that much money on coffee in a 40 day time span.

I will be crunching numbers in a few days to figure out how much will be donated to the Tap Project. I will update the moment I have the number!

5 DAYS LEFT:
As stated yesterday, I still have five days before I can taste the sweet loving of java. Though I will be without coffee, donations are officially closed. I will be removing donation buttons shortly.

GRADUATION:
I graduate this coming Thursday (March 20th). So check out my portfolio and take into account that almost my entire portfolio was built without a drop of coffee. Hence my insane stress levels.

Day 39: Some News About 40 Days Left

March 16th, 2008 by Brandi

Tomorrow is my last day! I cannot even explain my excitement!

Then again, it will actually be another week before I touch coffee. A few days ago, I mentioned that Lent is longer than a standard 40 days. I then came upon a dilemma.

The easiest way for me to describe to people about my quest was to say, “I’m fasting for Lent, but I’m not actually Catholic.” This means I have a hand full of folks waiting for me to last until Easter, when the fast is broken.

I also have quite a few friends participating in Lent and we have been supporting each other through these days.

Therefore, I will be going longer than a standard 40 days. This site/project known as 40 Days Left will, however, end at 40 days. Those are the breaks.

Thanks to all the support and donations. It has been remarkable and while yes, tomorrow ends this journey but not my the end of my coffee fast, I am still excited that I made it 40 days.

Day 38: Always a Delight

March 15th, 2008 by Brandi

While yes, it is a Saturday, I was up incredibly early to go my optometrist. I like my doctor. He is nice, very fast, doesn’t make you wait, and is very upfront and honest.

Today was not a pleasant visit. Not because of my doctor or anything like that. My doctor’s office is in a nice shopping strip and right next to him is a coffee shop. My doctor and the coffee place share a vent—so the doc’s office is full of brewed coffee.

Quite frankly, it is a magnificent smell. But, when you have very little sleep and walk into the office with the knowledge that you cannot have any of the coffee… it kind of sucks.

I was pretty disgruntled by this. With so few days left all I could think of was “I COULD have made the appointment after my fast.” I could have also planned the appointment later, but that is so not the point.

Day 37: This Will Look Stupid When I Read it Tomorrow

March 14th, 2008 by Brandi

First I would like to address the topic of Google. If you like Google earth, then check out Google sky. Way more fun, if you ask me.

Second thing is that as of tonight the Houston Rockets have won 21 games in a row. I am not a huge fan of basketball, but since they are representing my city, I want to give them a shout out. Also, I like giving props where they are due and these guys are working very hard and I think it is awesome.

I would love to divulge a bunch stuff that was hilarious today. And yes, I know, I am always hilarious, but I let a few things that slipped that were extra funny, but, I feel that some things could be taken out of context and I could possibly offend people. So instead of talking about those things, I will simply talk about coffee.

Oh good heavens do I want a cup of coffee.

And yeah, Starbucks will be giving free coffee out tomorrow from I think 9am - 12pm. Enjoy that. Because I can’t.

This is lame.

Day 36: Rambling

March 13th, 2008 by Brandi

With only four days to go before 40 Days Left comes to a close, my desire to have a cup of coffee has surged. I feel as if I am back on day one, sans the headaches.

Not only that, but all of my coffee buddies have been asking me if I can go out and grab a cup with them yet.

I have come to the conclusions that not only do I enjoy drinking coffee but that it is a staple of my personality and that several of my friendships are built around drinking coffee.

That is incredibly sad in retrospect.

Oh well.

I also want to note that this time next week, I will be a college grad!

Day 35: Why Some People Shouldn’t

March 12th, 2008 by Brandi

Somewhere in my first year of college, Zak and Rafael were some of my closest friends. One day, we went out to pick up a quick cup of coffee before attending a registration seminar.

Zak and I had been coffee buddies for a while, but Rafael had never really enjoyed a cup. He grew up in a coffee-less household and in a town where coffee wasn’t nearly on the high pedestal that it is in the city.

We bought Rafael a small latte–you know, something light.

The guy went crazy. He drank the entire thing before getting back to school and when we go inside, both him and Zak were convinced that we should all race up six flights of stairs.

On go, the two guys bolted up the stairs. I, however, totally snagged an elevator on floor two and met them on the sixth.

And it was determined that Rafael would never drink coffee again.

Day 34: Thinking Ahead

March 11th, 2008 by Brandi

No matter how hard I try, I simply cannot give into the idea that I would ever give up coffee for this long again. This was certainly a once in a lifetime event for me.

Though, I do like the idea of giving up something once a year. It is a great practice in self-restraint. This has lead me to start thinking about what I could possibly give up next year, if I choose to do this whole thing again (Lent, not so much fundraising).

Then, it hit me. Chipotle.

If coffee were the nectar of the gods, then Chipotle would be the burritos they eat. I love Chipotle enough to go once a week and sometimes twice if I can manage to get there. I am all about the burritos.

But really, if I were to give it up, I would probably starve to death.

So, I’m not. There.

Day 33: Coffee and Water is Messy

March 10th, 2008 by Brandi

Walking into my office this morning, I came upon several large fans whirling, squishy carpet beneath my converse, the smell of damp drywall, and the sight of peeling paper.

As it so happens, a water main in our kitchen had burst and leaked for hours until someone got to it. Not only that, but the guys below us underwent some flood issues as well.

The pipe that let loose was a connector from the water line to the coffee maker.

My theory is that the coffee maker finally snapped. Without me constantly running to it, it fell into a pit of despair. The coffee maker felt so worthless. It had lost it’s purpose in life. No matter how many times it called out to me, I ignored it. So, in its darkest hour, it pulled the plug and attempted coffee-maker-suicide.

It is now in rehab. I promised never to leave it again. Our love will make it through.

Day 32: Thanks

March 9th, 2008 by Brandi

My mom finally decided that I have been doing this 40 days thing long enough that she feels comfortable drinking coffee in front of me.

The first time she did this a day or two ago, she actually apologized. Of course I convinced her that I was ok and that drinking coffee in my presence is certainly not breaking any rules. However, today, I am almost positive she was flaunting the coffee in front of me. Not only that, but she was considering picking up a new coffee maker.

From sympathetic to torturous in two days time. Nice record, mom.

Day 31: Toys Galore

March 9th, 2008 by Brandi

This is posting is a little late. With Daylight Savings time changing and being out all day and being up early, I crashed last night before I could remember to post.

While running around the city yesterday, I managed to pick up something particularly awesome. I mean, WAY awesome:

I give you the Nerf Maverick. Check out that barrel. It’s a quick fire rotating barrel gun. I even bought extra Nerf darts.

I cannot wait to bring it to the office with me. Which, by the way, proves that I work for one of the coolest companies.

Day 30: Give Me a Countdown

March 7th, 2008 by Brandi

Only ten days left! I can hardly believe it. Time is going to fly by these last few days, just as long as I do not think to heavily about my delicious reward at the end.

I was actually looking at a calendar because if I were fasting for Lent, then I would be way off right now. The 40 days in Lent are counted by Lunar days, rather than our version of Gregorian calendar goodness.

So if you are a practicing catholic, then you have an additional few days to hang in there. Those are the breaks. But, anyone who may be fasting or doing anything lent-like and has managed to stick to it, it’s downhill at this point. A few extra days are nothin’.

Keep sticking to it. I may actually do the entire time, though this blog will stop at 40.

Day 29: Tease

March 6th, 2008 by Brandi

While working on my mom’s laptop, she broke the silence with, “I made Cafe DuMonde this morning… it was really good.”

Her excuse for doing that to me? Because I am so close to my goal. And looking at what day it is, she is right. Eleven days stand between me and a cup coffee. In eleven days I will be taking all of this cash that is burning a hole in my pocket and giving it to a child who could really use clean water. In eleven days I will be experiencing one of the biggest caffeine hits in my life.

I’m excited! This project means a lot to me on so many levels and I was happy to be able to share with everyone I know and a lot of strangers.

Day 28: Stress

March 5th, 2008 by Brandi

I have a French friend who smokes on occasion and has been attempting to kick the habit. According to him, he first began smoking when he fell under a lot of stress at school.

It got me to thinking about my coffee habits and I don’t really drink coffee when I am stressed.

The feeling of being stressed is so negative. The feeling of coffee is positive. You can’t feel negative and try to add a positive and expect everything to come out positive. You have to get rid of the negative all together. Or something.

So basically, I drink coffee when I am in a positive mood. Doing well at work with a good pace, finding the extra time in the day to treat myself and spend a few minutes alone, landing that amazing job–all positive, all coffee.

In short, when I am stressed, I am not drinking coffee. I am just having a super freak out instead.

Day 27: Politics, of Course

March 4th, 2008 by Brandi

If you are living in either Texas or Ohio, I really hope you took the time to go out and vote. Unless you are living within those states but are not technically a citizen of the U.S.

My mom was a delegate for a lot of years and would actually go around and drive people to the polls. Once, I had poison ivy and ended up spending the day covered in anti-itch lotion at the polls with her. She taught me all kinds of neat things about how the whole process works.

So, I am a big supporter of voting. As a woman, especially, when you take into consideration how long the fore-mothers fought to earn women this right.

Even if I disagree with the government right now on so many issues, I vote because it is my right and one of few opportunities I have to make my voice heard.

Day 26: No. Oh Gosh, Just No.

March 3rd, 2008 by Brandi

A lot of folks have been asking if I plan to return to coffee at the end of 40 days.

YES. YES I DO.

Just wanted to clarify that for everyone.

Day 25: Conservation

March 2nd, 2008 by Brandi

Did you know that every time you flush a toilet, you are estimated to wasting 8 liters? That may be less than half a gallon, but take into consideration how much more you flush when you sip down a couple of pots of coffee at work.

If you take five trips to the potty during your work hours, then that equates to 40 liters. It may not seem like a lot of water, but when you take into consideration that it can be dropped down by skipping a cup of coffee or two… well, just think about it.

I’m on this topic because I have noticed that since giving up coffee, I save myself a lot of trips. So, basically, I’m not only raising money for kid’s who could use clean water, but I’m also conserving. In a way.

Day 24: Yum

March 1st, 2008 by Brandi

It just so happens that Starbucks has released a new coffee beverage. They are calling it a honey latte and according to them, it contains espresso, steamed milk, honey, and golden spice.

Not sure what the spice it, but if it’s chocolate, I am so totally doomed at the end of this 40 days deal.

And that is all I really have to say today.

Day 23 1/2: Say What?

February 29th, 2008 by Brandi

Unless you use a calendar that works and is therefore not the Gregorian one, today is February 29th, otherwise known as a leap year. Which is why today should technically be only considered as Day 23 1/2. It’s only fair! Kind of.

One of my all time favorite coffee habits is to buy a cup for celebration purposes. If I completed a project before deadline, I had a celebratory cup. Aced an exam, beat a personal record, accomplished a high goal… you name it, it was followed by the sweet taste of success in my coffee cup.

Today was one of those days. The place I am an intern at gave me an official offer and I accepted. Shortly thereafter all I could think of was how I so desperately wanted the largest cup of celebratory coffee ever.

Day 23: When Coffee Was Magical

February 28th, 2008 by Brandi

While looking for a specific photo, I ran across this gem from 2005:

Its a Sign!

When I saw that rainbow arch to the top of that Starbucks, I thought it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Not so much that it was Starbucks, mind you. To me, it was as if the big guy in the sky was giving me the biggest thumbs-up ever. I took the photo and then drank my weight in coffee.

It is hard to believe how much money I honestly spend on coffee. Then I think about all of the free coffee I get as well. Realizing how much it is, I found that I am a spoiled brat to be able to waste money like that. Hence this site and my determination to give it to people in need.

Day 22: Too much Information?

February 27th, 2008 by Brandi

Two weekends ago I inadvertently scratched my left eye with my trusty index finger. Since then it has become really red and irritated. I’ve swapped wearing my contacts and glasses. This morning things were looking promising so I decided to wear my contacts again.

Bad choice.

My left eye is horribly bloodshot and my right eye is actually not looking to great. Could this be pink eye? Oh gosh, I so don’t want to wear my glasses.

So yeah. Just wanted to inform the world of what I have been doing all day.

Day 21: Your Turn

February 26th, 2008 by Brandi

Are you a heavy coffee drinker? Does the idea of giving up coffee for even five minutes make you sick to your stomach? Well guess what… no coffee for you!

It just so happens that the Starbucks franchise will be closing today. A large portion of the little coffee shops will be shutting down for around 3 hours to train baristas and refocus. So, if you are an avid Starbucks drinker, then come over and take a seat next to me. We can recant tails of the good ol’ days.

In fact, since you won’t be able to buy a cup, why not drop the cash into my donation jar? Sounds like a plan to me!

Day 20: Optimism / Pessimism

February 25th, 2008 by Brandi

Today marks me being halfway through my 40 days without coffee! I have to say, I wasn’t very sure that I could ever make it this far. Ya know, because ever since I started this it as if I am slowly dying where the only release is either death itself or coffee.

But I digress.

Being halfway through makes me feel good about how well I have done. You try giving up your vice cold turkey. It’s far from easy. What an accomplishment! And everyday I am getting encouragement and support from people.

But… there is another part of me that is silently screaming, “Twenty more days, sucker.”

Day 19: The Geek in Me

February 24th, 2008 by Brandi

There is no doubt in my mind that at the end of 40 days, I will pick up the biggest cup of coffee I can find. Not only that, but I found the perfect mug to drink from. It goes well with both my coffee habits and my insane geek factor.

Day 18: Bah

February 23rd, 2008 by Brandi

I think the hardest thing about this whole ordeal is Saturdays and Sundays. I already talked about how every Sunday I drink coffee. Whenever it is a particular gorgeous Saturday, I enjoy going out and not just drinking a cup, but taking the time to sit and enjoying it. Today was one of those kinda Saturdays.

But I didn’t drink a cup. Because I decided several days ago to not drink coffee. Because every so often, I do the dumbest things. Ha!

Day 17: Rent-a-Puppy

February 23rd, 2008 by Brandi

I have a dog that I love very much. A big black lab that goes by the name Lexington. No matter how much I love the beast, I still have weird urges to spend Saturdays playing with puppies.

I’ve given much thought to the idea of a “Rent-a-Puppy” type situation where one can go in and rent a puppy for an entire day. You take the little guy to a park, run around, get some puppy kisses, and call it a day. No mess, no fuss.

I just think it would be awesome.

I have no idea why I just shared this.

Day 16: Pick a Cup

February 21st, 2008 by Brandi

The people in my life are predominately coffee drinkers–because that’s how I make friends. However, there are a few out there that do not like coffee. They think it tastes “gross.” What the heck? Are you serious?

I chalk it up to a bad experience. These people who have actually tried coffee must have had a bad batch. Case in point: my best friend in the whole wide world has the worst taste in coffee (sorry Meredith, but it’s true). She goes into the coffee place and orders a no-fat-no-whip, sugar free, made with soy milk, and two Splenda vanilla latte.

It is literally liquid cardboard.

I think the reason certain people don’t like coffee is because the person giving them the cup has “their” version of coffee. This is wrong. Coffee has different flavors, different bodies, different consistencies. It is a beverage that should be tailored to the individual.

So if you don’t like coffee, it may be because the time you tried it, you had a bad mixture. Feel free to consult me and I will help you pick a cup.

Didn’t mean to rant. But seriously. C’mon. It’s coffee.

Day 15: Not Coffee Related

February 20th, 2008 by Brandi

Apparently, there are few people out in the world that disregard the “grilled” part of “grilled cheese sandwich.” These people make their sandwiches in an oven. I find this bizarre.

I’m also disturbed because I just found out that my boyfriend is one of these people. Ridiculous! How could I end up with a cheese-toast-oven-person? Well, he decided to give the stove a shot.

Now he is raving about how amazingly delicious grilled cheese sandwiches are.

Thank God. That would have been about 3 years wasted. Close call, Rafael. Close.

Thanks to Angela for sending this gem to me!

Day 14: But of Course!

February 19th, 2008 by Brandi

Lately I have come to notice that I drive with the same pack of cars every morning I go into work. There is that white sedan that needs a good wash. The teal green truck with the airbrush mural of the Grand Canyon. The little compact car that breaks really bad.

None of the people are particularly happy. I see them all the time and they never have a trace of smile. Not even on a gorgeous early Friday morning!

Then I quit drinking coffee and now I am one of them. Bravo, life. I see what you did there.

Total money saved to date: $52.00

Day 13: Minty

February 18th, 2008 by Brandi

Did you know that if you brush your teeth in the morning, your mouth will literally stay fresh all day? Try it. Go one day without drinking coffee and try to convince me you are not minty at 10am! It is amazing!

The trade-off really isn’t worth it. I mean, I can always brush my teeth again. Have the best of both worlds and all that.

… I use Colgate.

Total money saved to date: $48.50

Special thanks to those who have donated the past few days! Big thanks to Angela and Rafael.

Day 12: Every Sunday

February 17th, 2008 by Brandi

While I am growing accustomed to going without coffee, I am hating how it is changing my eating habits.

Without any coffee intake, I seem to be eating more than usual. Lots of snacks and other things of that nature. I had a lot of people tell me that I may lose weight by cutting out coffee, due to sugar and creamers. Leave it to me to pick up equally as bad habits. I have eaten more cookies lately, other candies, and just eating more at a meal than what I am usual to.

It’s totally lame.

And that is all I really have to say about that. (It’s been a long day, so yeah, a better posting tomorrow.)

Total money saved to date: $45.00

Day 11: Smell the Raw Fish

February 16th, 2008 by Brandi

What a day! Since my boyfriend and I have such disdain for Valentine’s day, we always steal the following Saturday and celebrate in our own style. Every year is a little different, but I think this year is going to be hard to top.

What do we do? We eat a lot of sushi and do dessert, we run around town and indulge in all of the snacks that we deem “unhealthy”, and we do a little unnecessary shopping.

I’m mentioning this because it reminded me of how important it is to indulge in the simple pleasures in life. I want to encourage everyone to take a little time and do something for yourself. Drag your significant other along with you for added fun.

It was nice to get away from portfolio work, away from work-work, and away from every stress out there. Now I’m craving a road trip.

Have a good night, kids. And drink a cup of coffee for me in the morning.

Day 10: 30 More to Go!

February 15th, 2008 by Brandi

A quick shout out! My friend Brandi (harhar, there are two of us) is part of a guild and spread the word about my project. I got good feedback and good traffic. So yes, thanks Brandi and thanks to the guys and gals at Epic Coalition!

Right now the weather is pretty bad. Rolling thunder and rain that is all wet and junk. A good night to curl up with a book and a cup of… water. Water is fine. It’s healthy. And stuff.

As for the book, I would highly recommend it. It’s Called Work for a Reason is a book that I think anyone who has ever worked a day in their life should read. Candor is good, so I like this book.

My parting thoughts for tonight: I think I may have pink-eye and I owe the government $24.00.

Day 09: Not Much

February 14th, 2008 by Brandi

Today was a slow day. Happy Valentine’s Day to anyone who actually celebrates the holiday. I am not a big of it, the cheap candy, nor the color pink. Actually, I went the entire day without even seeing my boyfriend (lucky guy, doesn’t have to be romantic).

The feeling of no coffee is beginning to stabilize. The next two weeks should be interesting though. I have a lot of work to do and I am going to want to have my coffee to get me through it.

Day 08: Feelin’ the Pain

February 13th, 2008 by Brandi

I recently wrote to my second-cousin about how I have chosen to given up coffee. Apparently, she has decided to give up for Lent. She is younger and her coffee intake is not nearly what mine is, but still, very awesome of her. So, between her and my pregnant friend Nicole, I have two people suffering with me.

Coffee ImageI think the human suffrage encourages me just as much as the donations! Or… something. Yeah.

Speaking of donations, I have had a lot more come in than I ever though. I don’t want to give a number, simply because some have yet to be finalized. But it is so awesome to know that people want to give.

Day 07: Pomegranite!

February 12th, 2008 by Brandi

Just about everyone at work has noticed my personality change since going off of coffee. Less chipper, not yet awake, and a few others have been tossed around. So today, one of my awesome coworkers brought me this weird pomegranate drink mixed with something else. It was tart, that is for sure, but what a definite energy boost!

I may be stocking up on some of the stuff to make it through the rest of my 40 days.

I also want to note that today was the strongest craving I have had for coffee. I’m so going crazy.

Day 06: Planning Coffee Breaks

February 11th, 2008 by Brandi

Once I got off of work and was walking to my car, I noticed that I was feeling a little hungry. Not hungry enough to eat, but hungry enough to snack. Then, like an old habit, I started thinking about how I could stop for a cup of coffee and presume my personal work and wrap up the day with a book.

See that? My mind actually automatically plans to have coffee when my stomach is feeling snackish. That is terrible! Actually, what is terrible is that I hugged a coffee bean dispenser in the store yesterday.

uSAVEm My first sponsor!

Well, my first official sponsor. I have two more in the works. I am so excited and so fortunate to have good people who want to take part in my coffee-less mission. So, a big thanks to Al and Vicki Hopper. An extra special thanks to Vicki… she knows why.

Day 05: A Comfort Trick!

February 10th, 2008 by Brandi

A friend of mine told me that she was once a big smoker. One day she decided to quit for the millionth time. She had heard that a lot of smokers are addicted due to oral fixation. So, my friend decided to tackle the problem by grabbing a carrot stick every time she felt the desire to light up.

If it worked for her, why not for me?

Now, when I feel like drinking some orange juice or milk (my fall back beverages), I pour them into one of my coffee cups. And, as goofy as it sounds, it helps a lot.

I hold the cup as if it is coffee and I nurse the drink a little longer. While no, it does not decrease my coffee cravings, it does give me some comfort.

That is today in a nutshell.

I also added some stuff to the site! Comments! Donation buttons! Contact forms! It’s all there! Online sponsorship and donations are up and running!

Total money saved to date: $19.00

Day 04: The Reason Why

February 9th, 2008 by Brandi

The last few days have sent me down memory lane and sadly for my friends, I have been recanting the stories of my past coffee experiences.

I can remember the first time I decided that drinking coffee was for me. I was so young that I hadn’t even entered kindergarten. I woke up on a Saturday morning and jazz music was playing in the house. When I made my way into the kitchen, I saw mom pouring her a cup of the good stuff. I remember the smell, the atmosphere, and thinking that one day, that would be me making a cup of coffee.

Several years later, the idea that coffee should be served hot and fast and on the way out of the door hit the U.S. and I have relished in it ever since.

So, in a way, I should be giving a big thanks to my mom for teaching me about the simple pleasures in life. Oh, and addiction, of course. Yeah. Thanks, mom.

Day 03: Getting Better & Sponsors

February 8th, 2008 by Brandi

The day was not nearly as long as I feared it would be. Waking up at 5:30AM with the same nagging headache was completey lame, but everything else was A-OK.

However! I could not help but notice nearly two full pots of coffee left at work at around 3PM. This was shocking to me! I may have actually harassed the co-workers around me about letting something so good go to waste. I also sent an email to my boss (because I lack sense) claiming that someone would have to pick up the slack since I was going without.

I actually have a friend of the family in town and she gave me a large thing of Community Coffee. Thanks, but at the same time.. ouch.

As for sponsors! I have at least THREE individuals who want to sponsor my crazy journey. Once those things are confirmed and things get organized, I will be announcing who those three are.

Also, updates to the site will be coming soon. Hopefully within the next week. Alright, drink a cup of coffee for me and I will check back in tomorrow.

Day 02: Not so good

February 7th, 2008 by Brandi

Woke up with a pounding headache that has stuck with me the entire day. Even though I had a nice 8-hours of sleep last night, I was tired all day. My appetite has also changed due to lack of good coffeeness.

Overall, today was a bit painful. Tomorrow is going to be a long day. I have a feeling it will end with me curled up in the fetal position, bawling my eyes out.

At the end of 40 days, not only am I going to get a nice cup of coffee, I’m tossing in some Stok.

It’s good stuff. I wouldn’t mind if my office actually bought a couple of boxes.

Day 01: Blarghuhg

February 6th, 2008 by Brandi

Wow, what a TERRIBLE first day without coffee. Up early, horrible traffic, late to class, and all around burnt out by everything else.

Wednesday night’s usually involve a “coffee run” during class. I still went on the run, but I passed on the coffee. To be honest, the smell alone de-stressed me.

It isn’t even 10PM and I am exhausted. And uh, I’m fairly irritable. Oh, and mood swings.

You know what, this is why people start smoking, I swear.

Just a note: a big huge THANKS to my first donation from Tim and Nicole Newton! Also, congrats to them–they are having a baby!

Total money saved to date: $3.50

Day 00 - A Prelude

February 6th, 2008 by Brandi

40 Days Left is a site/blog written by me, Brandi, about my progress on giving up coffee for 40 days.  This is just a side project to add to my already huge priority list, which happens to be one force that causes me to drink the java so much.

So far I have already gotten the “caffeine headache” talk, but my love affair with coffee goes deeper than a cheap caffeine high. Keep an eye on this space for daily updates about my progress/breakdowns. Should be fun and maybe a little scary.
